| On the third Saturday of each month, we hold meetings with the children to discuss house rules and other issues at Nonohana-no-ie Children's Home. All of the children participate in the discussions, make decisions and follow through with them. |
Every year, we invite guests from all over the world to enjoy festive meals from various cultural regions, reflecting the multi-cultural backgrounds of our children. |

| "Tengejin", meaning "friend" in Burmese, is one of the highlights of our events at Nonohana-no-ie Children's Home. At the Tengejin event, a group of representatives from different countries talk about their cultures, people, traditions and life styles. In this educational and interactive event, the children are able to learn about the world outside of their own city and country. In light of post-9/11 era, what can be more meaningful than educating future generations of our children with a cross-cultural understanding? |
We want to encourage our children to develop a sense of giving to others. To demonstrate how they can contribute to others, we hold a monthly "Simple Meal Day", whereby the children and staff eat only the rice and miso soup as our dinner and donate the money we saved on side dishes to children in need of financial assistance in other countries. In 2001, our proceeds went to a village in Burma. |

| The home stay program provides our children an opportunity to experience what it is like to live in an ordinary family environment. The host families often act as if they are the children's relatives, including them in family holiday celebrations. Through such experiences, the children realize that there are people who care for them and are able to use the host families as a role model for creating their own families in the future. |
